New Painting: “Dots 1”

February 20, 2009 at 11:55 am 5 comments

I just finished another little bitty abstract dot painting:

"Dots 1" by Barbara J Carter, 5x7", acrylic on canvas panel, 2009

I’m having so much fun with these little guys! Painting all those dots is rather meditative. Of course I’ll be doing much larger paintings in this style, but these little paintings are a fun way to warm up to the bigger ones.

Unlike the Valentine painting, this one was available for sale, but is now sold. Don’t worry, there will be more!

I like this painting, Barbara. It reminds me of those color vision tests where you’re supposed to see numbers made up of dots. I always fail that test although I can pass other color-vision tests and am pretty sure I’m not color blind; but I have a problem about reversing directions . . .

Actually, I think I see a big number 2 in the middle of this painting.

Anyway, just wanted to give you some feedback and I’ll be watching for future pieces.

Hey Terry, thanks for stopping by! I assure you there are no numbers in this painting. But if you look closely, you might notice that certain colors of dots do line up in neat little rows, and the background is also two different colors. So, yeah, it’s like a color-vision test. But there’s no pass or fail here!

Liking your little dot work – love the heart

Barbara J Carter

I'm an artist. I make paintings with dots.

I work in acrylic paint, in a couple of distinct styles: landscapes and abstracts.

Native to California, I've lived elsewhere and only recently returned to my home state. I now live in Los Angeles.

I mostly show my art in outdoor festivals in California. I also occasionally show my work in art galleries or open studio events. You can see an up-to-date list of upcoming shows on my website (click here).

I invite you to sign up to receive my free email newsletter, in which I list my upcoming shows and talk about my latest work. I send it irregularly, a few times a year.
