Hot times in Sierra Madre
Last weekend was my fourth show of my 4-in-a-row blitz. And it very nearly killed me.
Well, okay, I survived pretty well. But it was brutal. Temperatures soared above 100 degrees (F) both days. And my booth was located in the center of a shadeless lawn I called the Serengeti. I baked all weekend.
That’s my booth on the left.
This show, the Sierra Madre Art Fair, held annually by the Friends of the Sierra Madre Library, has very good community support. It’s a nice little show in a very pleasant park in the heart of Sierra Madre, CA. Locals generally turn out in good numbers to see the show each year. It was just our bad luck to have such unseasonably hot weather this year. Lots of people elected to go to the beach or stay indoors in the air conditioning rather than brave the heat at the show this year. And I don’t blame them!
An artist friend of mine chose not to exhibit in the show because of the heat. I’m not sure that was such a bad idea either.
In spite of all that, I still managed to sell some art. Hooray for the few hardy souls willing to venture out on a hot day!
